If you build it, they will come and if you let them build it, they will LEARN." - Laura Fleming, Worlds of Making
Meet the Makers at the Wilshire Elementary MakerSpace
Check back to see what our library patrons are making and learning in our school's MakerSpace! Check back often for updated pictures where the successes and even failures are shared to celebrate all forms of learning, creation, and innovation!
Monthly Themes
Each month, our Makerspace will have a special theme with matching materials, supplies, and inspirations for the creative juices to start flowing!
September's MakerSpace theme is "PaperSpace"
There is a LOT of paper that comes in and out of a library. Just think of all the books on our shelves! When a book's pages come clean out of a book in one big chunk, I don't toss it in the trash. I toss it in the MakerSpace!
In September, we kick off our MakerSpace learning with all things paper! This could be doing blackout poetry, folding origami, making a paper airplane, or paper weaving.
Our MakerSpace project of the month is creating a decorative corner bookmark out of a mailing envelope.

The Quiver app makes artwork come alive!
To celebrate International Dot Day, 2nd-5th grade students will decorate a dot during library time. At home, download the Quiver app from the Apple App store. Use it to make student artwork become a 3-D masterpiece!
What is a MakerSpace? a place in which people with shared interests can gather to work on projects while sharing ideas, equipment, and knowledge
This year, we will have monthly themes and a special project within that monthly theme. For example, September's theme is PaperSpace and the special project is decorating a bookmark from the corner of a mailing envelope.
